Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide learners with a broad understanding of how risk is identified and analyzed in modern organizations using advanced technologies such as smart sensors and predictive models. The first part of the course takes a holistic approach by explaining modern tools for identifying risk, as well as various risk analysis techniques. The remainder of the course discusses ways to assess specific types of risks, including emerging risks such as cyber risk, social media risk, reputation risk, and supply chain risk.

Learning Outcomes:

  • have familiarity with holistic risk identification, identifying risk as a team, assessing risk tools and techniques, risk registers, risk maps, the fundamentals of effective collaboration, and collaborating with experts about risk; understand risk analysis, system safety analysis, root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, fault tree analysis, the "5 Whys" and fishbone diagram
  • have a familiarity with probability analysis, estimating volatility, value at risk and earnings at risk, simulating risk, trend analysis, and analyzing event consequences
  • explain big data for risk management, traditional data analysis, modern data analysis, and using data to make decisions
  • know categorizing property, sources of property risk, natural disaster loss control, life safety, valuing physical property, management liability risk, and human resource risk
  • understand cyber risk loss exposures, controlling and financing cyber risk, and third-party cyber liability exposures
  • explain operational risk categories, operational risk indicators, self-assessing operational risk, and emerging technology and operational risk
  • evaluate social media risk, reputational risk, and assessing risks through text mining and network analysis
