Description

Objective:

The objective of the Online Medical Assistant Training (CCMA) course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMAs) in diverse healthcare environments. Through a blend of simulation-based learning, a comprehensive curriculum, real-world application, and instructor-led case studies and lectures, the course aims to prepare students for success in the dynamic field of medical assisting.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the basic structure and function of healthcare systems, including the roles of various healthcare providers and settings, and understand how these elements work together to deliver patient care.
  • Accurately define, spell, and pronounce basic medical terms, including root words, prefixes and suffixes, anatomical structures, and directional terms, and apply this knowledge to understand medical documentation and communicate effectively within a healthcare setting
  • Identify common medications, including their therapeutic uses, mechanisms of action, and potential side effects, and understand the principles of drug administration and pharmacokinetics.
  • Identify and describe the significant organs of the human body, including their anatomical location and physiological functions, and understand the integrative mechanisms that enable the human body to maintain homeostasis.
  • Become proficient in administering medications as directed by a healthcare provider, drawing blood, performing basic diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, obtaining vital signs, removing sutures, changing dressings, preparing and administering injections, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), screening and wellness exams, obtaining patient history, recording allergies.
  • Recognize the most common pathogens that lead to infections, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Understand the different ways infections can be transmitted, including direct contact, indirect contact, droplet transmission, airborne transmission, and vector-borne transmission.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of key infection prevention and control measures, such as hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe injection practices, and environmental cleaning and disinfection.
  • Become proficient in scheduling appointments, updating medical records and charts, answering phones, filling out insurance forms, processing medical insurance payments, and sending lab results to doctors or other clinicians
