Description

Objective:

The course objective is to develop mastery in math concepts and operations by means of guided, assessment-based study in the ALEKS system. Following initial assessment, students are given choice of topics for active study based on individual current readiness; as progress is made, selection of topics evolves according to developing readiness. Active mastery of new material is supported by interactive feedback, step-by-step explanations, and hyperlinked dictionary definitions. Periodic reassessments confirm mastery and ensure adequate ongoing review; student can also review spontaneously at any time. Real-time reporting of progress is visible to student.

Learning Outcomes:

  • perform operations and conversions with whole numbers, decimals, percentages, and fractions
  • solve and graph linear equations
  • understand and interpret graphical representations of data and measures of central tendency
  • compute probabilities of independent and dependent events and conditional probability
  • compute distributions and confidence intervals
  • understand sample sizes, power, and errors
  • perform hypothesis tests
  • perform regressions, including multiple regression
  • perform ANOVA, Chi-square, and Nonparametric tests
  • apply statistical methods for time series and quality control
