Objective:

The course objective is for students to discuss global issues and use appropriate social and cultural research methodologies to investigate, analyze, and present opinions on global issues.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Analyze and discuss selected global issues using arguments supported by authoritative sources
  • Work together to present information and lead a discussion in an academic setting
  • Communicate information and opinions using effective academic register and language, and awareness of audience
  • Explain the nature of global issues and outline the major global issues of the past century
  • Compare and contrast quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and discuss appropriate applications
  • Research and evaluate sources on global issues for validity and bias
  • Apply quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies and analytical skills to research a global issue and suggest possible solutions
  • Use problem solving skills in groups when discussing global issues
