Specialization: Federal policy, federal student aid, legislative issues

For more than 35 years, Becky H. Timmons has played a key role in ACE's comprehensive effort to engage federal policy makers on a broad range of issues including all facets of federal student aid policy, international education, government regulation, college affordability, immigration, and campus security.

Timmons leads ACE’s 3-person government relations staff in representing the interests of colleges and universities before the U.S. Congress and various executive branch agencies and interpreting these matters to the media. She oversees federal regulation of higher education and has participated in a majority of  the negotiated rulemaking sessions conducted by the Department of Education to effect changes in the Higher Education Act.

In keeping with ACE’s unique role as the “umbrella” organization, Timmons devotes effort and energy toward working with ACE’s sister associations to frame common advocacy positions and implementing them in a coordinated and unified fashion. She also orchestrates a monthly meeting of the Washington-based higher education community with the assistant secretary of education.
