Recently released figures confirm what many higher education leaders are experiencing firsthand: America’s enrollment decline is real, no matter where an institution is located. The days of reliable year-over-year growth are numbered, but colleges and universities are flexing new muscles to reach new students, analyze recruitment strengths, and shape up enrollment soft spots.
Data from a recent report published in the U.S. Department of Education’s Digest of Education Statistics is highlighted to show the dynamics of the approximately 23 million students that will be enrolled in postsecondary degree-granting institutions by the fall of 2021.
Despite a projected 7 percent drop in Ohio high school graduates overall, the University of Cincinnati’s enrollment last year broke institutional records. University of Cincinnati President Santa J. Ono details his institution’s successful strategies for defying the odds.
For many institutions, international student enrollment has become an indispensable part of the equation. But enrollment is just part of the picture.
