MIT Media Lab Director Joi Ito to Address ACE2017
September 26, 2016

Joichi “Joi” Ito, an internationally prominent activist, entrepreneur and venture capitalist, will be the keynote speaker at the ACE2017 Monday luncheon plenary session on innovation.

Ito, the director of the MIT Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is currently exploring how radical new approaches to science and technology can transform and improve society.

In Japan, Ito was a founder of Digital Garage and helped establish that country’s first commercial internet service provider. He is an activist for emergent democracy, privacy and Internet freedom, has served as board chair and CEO of Creative Commons, and was an early investor in many companies, including Flickr and Twitter.

ACE2017, ACE’s 99th Annual Meeting, is the most country’s distinguished higher education event, convening nearly 2,000 leaders from deans to presidents and chancellors. It will enable institutional leaders to generate fresh perspectives for practical solutions, network with top leaders across all higher education sectors, and bring data-driven insights back to campus.

Registration is now open for the meeting, scheduled for March 11-14, 2017, in Washington, DC.

TIAA is the sponsor of the Monday luncheon plenary. Other plenary sessions will examine the themes of higher education leadership, equity and social justice and leadership in a changing world.

Breakout sessions will unpack the political, policy, and practice issues impacting the decisions leaders make every day. This spring will be a particularly valuable time to be in Washington for an informed look at the future of higher education, shortly after a new president is sworn into office and a new Congress convenes.

The meeting opens at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 11, with events that include the International Welcome and Networking Reception, the Reception for Presidents and Chancellors and the ACE Women’s Leadership Dinner.
