Letter to Education Secretary About Potential Problems With the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

May 02, 2017

Letter from ACE and 36 other higher education associations to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, expressing concern with recent reports that some borrowers, despite having voluntarily and periodically provided the department with the required information, will be unable to rely upon the department’s previous determinations of their eligibility under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

The groups urge the department not to reverse the initial determinations for PSLF borrowers who were deemed on track to loan forgiveness, and to look at meaningful ways to better engage with borrowers, particularly those who may be eligible for PSLF.
