Letter in Support of the Protecting Students From Automatic Default Act of 2014

April 30, 2014

This letter was sent to Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) in support of his bill to curb abuses in the private student lending market. As highlighted by the Consumer Financial Protection Board, the practice of demanding immediate, full repayment of a student loan upon the passing or bankruptcy of a cosigner, regardless of the previous status of the loan, poses a significant undue burden to borrowers.

Along with ACE, associations signing the letter include:

  • American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers
  • American Association of Community Colleges
  • American Association of State Colleges and Universities
  • Association of American Universities
  • Association of Community College Trustees
  • Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities
  • Association of Public and Land-grant Universities
  • Council for Christian Colleges & Universities
  • Council for Higher Education Accreditation
  • Council for Opportunity in Education
  • National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities
  • National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators
