From its first programs for returning World War II veterans, ACE's Center for Lifelong Learning has led the national movement to recognize and promote adult learner programs in higher education. As the highly respected leader in the evaluation of workforce and military training, the Center demonstrates its commitment to adult learning and attainment through a wide range of programs and initiatives that support postsecondary access and success.

​GED® testing, evaluation of military and workforce training, web portals and navigation tools, and educational pathways are key program areas that demonstrate ACE’s longstanding commitment to adult learners. As more and more Americans take multiple paths to earning postsecondary credentials, ACE continues to develop programs and services to support adult learning and attainment.

  • ACE CREDIT®
    ACE CREDIT was established in 1974 to connect workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain academic credit for formal courses and examinations taken outside of traditional degree programs. With over 35,000 courses reviewed, ACE is the national leader in the evaluation process for education and training obtained outside the classroom.
  • Military Programs
    Since 1945, ACE has provided a critical link between the U. S. Department of Defense and higher education and in this role helps our nation’s military members and veterans gain access to higher education. ACE reviews military training (courses) and experiences (occupations) with the goal of awarding equivalent college credits for those experiences. The Military Guide has over 18,000 exhibits (15,000 courses/3,200 occupations) dating back to 1954.
  • College and University Partnerships
    The Office of College and University Partnerships collaborates with higher education institutions and other organizations to boost adult learners’ postsecondary attainment, working toward greater awareness, acceptance, and application of ACE credit recommendations for military and corporate training, and other prior learning assessment options. The ACE CREDIT College and University Network is a group of more than 2,000 higher education institutions of all types—two- and four-year institutions, public and private, and nonprofit and for-profit—that consider ACE credit recommendations.
  • Supporting Student Veterans
    ACE Veterans' Programs promotes access to and success in higher education for the more than 2 million service members and their families who are eligible for benefits under the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The initiative is comprised of grant-funded programs seeking to find, develop, and disseminate promising practices in serving student veterans in higher education and promote awareness of this population’s needs. These projects continue ACE’s tradition of helping to ensure service member and veteran success in higher education.

  • AACC Plus 50 Encore Completion Program
    AACC’s Encore Completion Program aims to help 10,000 baby boomers earn postsecondary credentials in high-need areas such as education, healthcare, and social services by 2014.
  • Non-Traditional No More
    In its June 2012 report, Going the Distance in Adult College Completion: Lessons from “Non-Traditional No More” Project, WICHE (Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education) shares lessons learned in a three-year project with six states that identified students with prior learning and removed barriers to completion.
  • Virtual Career Network (VCN)
    The VCN provides resources to explore more than 80 health care occupations, find job listings, and identify education and training programs. Look for tools that help adult learners identify and organize their prior learning to share with an academic advisor.

  • College Board Policy and Advocacy Center
    The Center focuses on policy in the areas of college preparation and access; affordability and financial aid; and admission and completion. A June 2012 brief provides trends in enrollment, prices, and student aid.
  • Corporate Voices for Working Families: Micro Business Cases
    Through its Micro Business Cases, Corporate Voices, a national business membership organization, has identified and highlighted businesses and business practices that make significant contributions to postsecondary education completion through “Learn and Earn” models.
  • The EvoLLLution: Illuminating the Lifelong Learning Movement
    Launched in December 2011, The EvoLLLution is a grassroots online newspaper that aims to advance lifelong learning by provoking new ideas and building collaboration across the higher education community.
