ACE Submits Comments on Regulatory Reform to Department of Education
September 20, 2017

ACE, along with 17 other associations, submitted comments (92 KB PDF) today to the Department of Education (ED) on ideas for regulatory reform.

The comments focused on financial responsibility standards, return of Title IV funds, and state authorization, and also included a copy of the 2015 report, Recalibrating Regulation of Colleges and Universities: Report of the Task Force on Federal Regulation of Higher Education (13 MB PDF). The report was produced by a task force of 16 college and university presidents convened in 2013 by a bipartisan group of senators to identify specific federal regulations and reporting requirements that place undue burden on students, families and institutions of higher education.

The department’s call for comments was part of the Trump administration’s regulatory reform efforts outlined in the executive order issued in February that required all federal agencies to begin identifying regulations to eliminate.

ED also is holding public hearings on its regulatory rollback efforts, beginning Monday, Sept. 25, at Salt Lake Community College in Sandy, Utah. The second hearing is scheduled Oct. 4 at the department's DC headquarters. Both will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time.
