Common Core

The Common Core State Standards is a national initiative bringing into alignment a set of K–12 standards in the foundational subjects of English and language arts and mathematics. Sponsored by state governors and chief state school officers, the Common Core aims to elevate high school graduates’ readiness for postsecondary education and improve their job prospects. To date, nearly all fifty states and U.S. territories have adopted the initiative.

New Issue Brief Available on Implementing Common Core State Standards

ACE, Achieve and the State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO) today released Implementing the Common Core State Standards: An Action Agenda for Higher Education. The brief calls on the higher education community to actively participate as new state standards are implemented for English language arts and mathematics for grades K-12.
