With the whirlwind of initiatives connected to credit for prior learning (CPL) and competency based education (CBE), the higher education community is exploring ways in which to help students demonstrate their college-level learning, accelerate their time to credential completion and participate in quality learning experiences. What are today’s definitions and purposes of CBE and CPL? How are they connected in policy and practice? In what ways are institutions integrating CPL and CBE into their degree programs?
ACE and a diverse group of institutions presented information about current and emerging principles and practices. Presenters shared challenges, strategies and successes in areas such as outreach and engagement of students, faculty and staff; student performance and completion; and quality assurance.
