Prepare for GED Tests at Home

If you decide you want to study on your own after looking at the in-person and online resources we've provided, the instructional resources listed below may help—ranging from television study aids to official practice tests.

Also, if you feel you need a special accommodation due to a documented disability, read the information about Accommodations for Disabilities in GED Testing.

Instructional Resources

There are a variety of tools you can use to prepare yourself for the GED Tests. GED Testing Service partners with Steck-Vaughn, Kentucky Educational Television (KET) and Paxen Group provide the following materials:

GED Connection > Start Now
GED Connection, from PBS LiteracyLink and KET, allows you to study at home for the GED Tests by watching programs broadcast on most PBS stations. For your local TV schedule, visit the PBS LiteracyLink web site, and enter your zip code in the top right corner of the first page, check with your local public television station or call KET at (800) 354-9067.

Official GED Practice Tests > Start Now
Steck-Vaughn publishes the Official GED Practice Test (OPT) and provides an easy-to-use online site for you to practice from home.

Visit Steck-Vaughn or contact a local testing center to learn more about the short- and full-length versions of the OPT.

Keys to GED® Success
Maximize your chances for GED testing success by preparing with books that focus practice on areas that have been the most challenging for other GED test-takers! Based on research by GED Testing Service, this five-book series targets key skills that GED candidates need to improve their chances of passing the tests. Each of the five books includes a pretest to help evaluate skills you will need to practice and answers with complete explanations so you can better understand how to make correct answer choices.

The Keys to GED® Success books may be ordered directly from Steck-Vaughn or you may ask your local GED testing center about the series.

GED Plus
Paxen Group develops and delivers the GED Plus Program in Arkansas and Georgia in connection with the provision of GED testing preparation services rendered to military personnel and out-of-school youths.
