At the heart of internationalization are connections with
institutions and organizations in other nations. Most familiar are
academic partnerships focusing on student and faculty exchange and
collaboration around teaching and learning, research, and development
issues. Going it alone is an increasingly difficult strategy for
institutions trying to cope with limited resources, intensified
competition, and increasing demands for access and quality. Institutions
benefit from partnering with each other, at home and abroad, and with
corporations, non-governmental organizations, and community groups to
enhance their quality and capacity. ACE publications in this area have
focused on leadership issues and partnership strategies.
Higher
Education for Development (HED): HED coordinates the efforts of the
nation's six major higher education associations to build their
partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)
and help their higher education member institutions plan and implement
development programs with colleges and universities abroad. HED provides
funding for innovative partnerships between U.S. colleges and
universities and institutions of higher learning in developing
nations
