2009 ACE Internationalization Collaborative Annual Meeting
|
"Accelerating Internationalization Through Campus-wide
Collaboration"
ACE is pleased to announce that the next meeting of the
Internationalization Collaborative will take place in Washington, DC on
January 30–31, 2009.
This meeting is open only to institutional members
of the Internationalization Collaborative.
Comprehensive internationalization is an ongoing process of engaging
multiple stakeholders in the work of incorporating international,
global, and intercultural dimensions into the teaching, research and
service functions of an institution. Because these stakeholders are wide
ranging by definition, they are often separated in their
internationalization efforts. The 2009 Collaborative Annual Meeting will
focus on how diverse campus constituents can collaborate more
effectively through sharing one another's expertise, resources, and
systems to advance comprehensive internationalization.
This meeting is designed for administrators, faculty, and
staff from across the institution; we hope that those that traditionally
attend Collaborative meetings will invite campus colleagues from other
programs and units, particularly those in student affairs, finance and
administration, and external affairs. Collectively, we aspire
to learn more about each other's systems and to promote good
collaborative practice in advancing comprehensive
internationalization.

Pre-Meeting Workshops
We will be offering three pre-meeting workshops on Friday, January 30
from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pre-registration is required; no on-site
registration for the workshops will be available.
- Workshop A: An Integrated Approach for Advancing
Comprehensive Internationalization
This workshop is designed for participants who are new to the ACE
Internationalization Collaborative and would like to learn more about an
integrative approach for internationalization. This strategy integrates
attention to inputs (through an internationalization review and
strategic planning process) with attention to outputs (through the
articulation of learning outcomes and the development of an assessment
plan). Representatives from institutions who have worked closely with
ACE in piloting this integrative strategy will offer lessons learned and
help participants think about how these processes might be applied at
their respective institutions. This workshop will draw upon the ACE
publications Building a Strategic Framework for Comprehensive
Internationalization (2005) and A Handbook for Advancing Comprehensive
Internationalization: What Institutions Can Do and What Students Should
Learn (2006). These ACE publications will be provided to workshop
participants. Lunch provided.
- Workshop B: International Partnerships: Guidelines for
Colleges and Universities
This workshop is designed for participants who are engaged in
international partnerships and who are interested in developing a more
strategic approach to their campus partnership work. It will draw upon
ACE's recently updated publication: International Partnerships:
Guidelines for Colleges and Universities and companion web-site and will
assist participants in developing a comprehensive framework for their
institutional partnerships. Lunch provided.
- Workshop C: At Home in the World: Educating for Global
Connections and Local Commitments
This workshop is designed for participants who are interested
in developing a conceptual framework and a set of learning outcomes to
guide their institution's efforts to promote synergy between
internationalization and multicultural education. The workshop will draw
from the ACE publication, At Home in the World, and good practices
shared at the ACE 2008 symposium, "Cultivating Collaboration Between
Internationalization and Multicultural Education." Lunch provided.
