2005 Leadership Network for International Education

Internationalizing Teaching and Learning: Institutional and Disciplinary Strategies

In 2005, the Leadership Network annual meeting highlighted the work of the disciplinary associations participating in the ACE project, "Where Faculty Live: Internationalizing the Disciplines" in providing useful models for internationalizing the disciplines.

The goals of the meeting included:

  • Reviewing and analyzing the initiatives of the Association of American Geographers, the American Historical Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Political Science Association within the framework of internationalizing their respective disciplines. Particular attention was paid to the process, outcomes, dissemination, and future plans.
  • Exploring the implications of the project outcomes for campus practice.
  • Examining the levers available to presidents and chief academic officers to further internationalize the disciplines and the strategies that have been more or less successful.

ACE is grateful to the Carnegie Corporation of New York for its funding of the project, "Where Faculty Live: Internationalizing the Disciplines," and for its support for the 2005 Leadership Network meeting.
