U.S.-South Africa Partnership for Skills Development
The U.S.-South Africa Partnership for Skills Development is funded
under a three-year Cooperative Agreement (No. 674-A-00-09-00029-00),
awarded to ACE by the USAID/Southern Africa Mission.
The Partnership's goal is assist USAID in implementing programs to
improve economic growth in South Africa by strengthening the
capacity of the Further Education and Training (FET) college sector to
increase the educational and employment outcomes for the country's
youth.
The program is working at the individual college level, the
provincial level, and the national level. Partnership for Skills
Development is expanding access to information on best practices in
skills training and workforce development in both the United States and
South Africa. The participating FET colleges will develop closer ties
with employers and enhance the employability of their graduates.
By agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education and Training of
the Republic of South Africa, ACE is working with 12 colleges (44
campuses) located in three provinces—Limpopo, Mpumalanga and
Northern Cape.
U.S. partners are the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), Bronx
Community College, Jobs for the Future, and YouthBuild International.
Consultants from U.S. community colleges are working with South African
partners on leadership development and health and wellness programs
including HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
