Online Learning: An Unexpected Resource

Today's college presidents face multiple challenges as they create and implement their institution's strategic plans. Among the myriad issues we must address, cost containment, revenue generation, facilities renewal, and regulatory compliance come most quickly to mind. However, we must also be concerned with the quality of the student experience, the effect of various technologies, and the ability of our institutions to continue operations in the face of a crisis or disaster.

To be of greatest value, a college's planning process must consider where the institution is today, where it wants to go, and the means available to move it from the present into the future. Until recently, few presidents have included an online learning capability among the tools employed to implement their strategic plans and achieve their vision. . . .
