By the Numbers: Is a College Education Worth the Time and
Expense?
Most higher education leaders would agree that the answer is a
resounding "yes"—and now new data from the American Council on
Education is available to help presidents show their constituents
why.
The data,
based on a public opinion poll of 1,000 college graduates between the
ages of 25 and 39 conducted in January 2008 by the Winston Group,
describes the graduates' satisfaction with various college experiences.
Among the major findings of the poll are that the majority of college
graduates believe they were effectively prepared with the necessary
knowledge and skills upon graduation, and that they often use the skills
they learned in college. The survey results also show that 92 percent of
graduates feel their college education was worth the time and expense.
If they could begin again, 78 percent say they would chose to attend the
same institution. . . .
