Focus on Conflict of Interest

Image

By Ada Meloy

The American Council on Education (ACE) recently updated its "Working Paper on Conflict of Interest" (available at www.acenet.edu). The paper, which was initially released in January 2008, aids higher education institutions in their continued efforts to ensure sound ethical practices throughout their campuses.

The past year has seen the New York Office of the Attorney General investigate the conduct of higher education institutions nationwide, as well as increased scrutiny from Congress. With questions aimed at the student loan industry, affinity cards, study abroad arrangements, endowments, compensation, and expense reimbursement, institutions are taking a close look at conflict of interest policies for all aspects of campus activities. . . .

Excerpted from the spring 2008 issue of The Presidency. To subscribe to the magazine, please call (301) 632-6757, or order online through ACE's bookstore.
