Building Community to Achieve Success

By Frank G. Pogue

I arrived on the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania campus on July 1, 1996, with a vision to create a student-centered learning environment by highlighting the mission of Edinboro University as that of access and excellence. When being interviewed by the university's search committee and campus constituents, it immediately became clear that I faced several challenges:

  • Restore university pride.
  • Create a sense of community characterized by trust and respect.
  • Establish a visible presence and positive image in the town of Edinboro and among the communities surrounding the university.
  • Create friends and supporters who would make financial contributions and support the institution. . . .
