Supporting the Retention of Women in Higher Education
The following web sites provide information about programs, services,
and projects that support women in higher education.
ACE Programs/Projects
Non-ACE Programs
- The American
Association of University Women (AAUW) Legal Advocacy Fund is
the largest legal fund focused solely on sexual discrimination in higher
education. It provides funding and support for women seeking judicial
redress for sexual discrimination.
- The Harvard Seminar for New Presidents provides
new, first-time presidents with a practical and conceptual orientation
to the presidency. It familiarizes new presidents with the opportunities
and hazards they will likely face and prepares them to respond to the
multiple responsibilities and constituencies of their new office.
- The Institute for Educational Management (IEM) of the
Harvard Graduate School of Education is designed to help
senior-level administrators examine critical leadership issues at
colleges and universities.
- The Management Development Program (MDP) of Harvard
University is designed for deans, directors, and other
administrators who are good at leading their units but want to improve.
Participants gain useful ideas about the critical management issues they
face, including budgeting, human resource development, planning, and
effective leadership.
- National Initiative for Women in Higher
Education (NIWHE) is a unique grassroots alliance promoting a
multicultural women-led agenda for the sustained transformation of
higher education. The CampusWomenLead web site seeks to
capture the range of institutional changes that promote gender equity
through leadership, teaching/learning/research, work/life,
campus/community connections, and women's networks.
- The Institute for Management and Leadership in Education
(MLE) is a two-week program offered by the Harvard Graduate
School of Education for skilled, experienced administrators, including
deans, directors, provosts, and vice presidents, who will help their
institutions adapt to achanging future.
Publications (Print and Online)
- NetworkNews is a quarterly newsletter created by the
ACE State Network Executive Board to connect current and emerging women
leaders across the country. The newsletter features articles on
leadership, planning, advancement opportunities, OWHE activities, and
events sponsored by ACE/OWHE state networks throughout the United
States.
- On Campus with
Women (OCWW), sponsored by the Association of American Colleges and
Universities's Program on the Status and Education of Women, provides
readers with information that focuses on women's leadership, the campus
climate, curriculum and pedagogy, and new research and data on
women.
- Women 2000: Gender Equality, Development, and Peace for
the 21st Century (Beijing Plus 5) is a web site that provides
information about the United Nations Fourth World Conference on
Women.
- Women in Higher
Education is a national, monthly practitioners' news
journal.
