Linda Timm: A Extraordinary Professional Volunteer
Linda Timm, Ph.D., served as the tenth president of Mount Mary
College from 2006–2008. She was committed to the college’s
mission and to serving the needs of students. Under her leadership the
College developed a new strategic plan to guide the institution through
2012. Dr. Timm also launched a $5 million fund raising campaign for
facilities improvement.

Before going to Mount Mary, Dr. Timm served as vice president for
student affairs at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana,
from 1995–2006. Prior to her work at Saint Mary's, she served for
23 years at Illinois State University, where she had roles of increasing
administrative responsibility in student affairs, including residential
life and director of the student judicial office.
Dr. Timm received her bachelor of science degree in communication,
her master’s degree and her Ph.D. in educational administration
and foundations from Illinois State University. She has attended Harvard
Institutes for Higher Education, including the Harvard Seminar for New
Presidents in 2006. Dr. Timm has researched and published on issues of
student judicial affairs and student academic life.
But Dr. Timm is so much more than a compilation of career and
educational accomplishments. Her extraordinary professional volunteer
activities have impacted many different organizations. While in
Wisconsin, she was a member of the Board of the Wisconsin Association of
Independent Colleges & Universities and the Wisconsin Foundation for
Independent Colleges.
In 2006, Dr. Timm received the YWCA Tribute to Women Award in
education from the South Bend, Indiana, YWCA. In 2004, the Association
for Student Affairs at Catholic Colleges and Universities honored her
with a director emeriti status for her work as a founding member,
director and past president of the association. Dr. Timm was also a
founding member of the Association for Student Judicial Affairs. In
1997, Dr. Timm was inducted into the College of Education Hall of Fame
at Illinois State University.
Dr. Timm is a member of the American Association for Higher
Education, the American College of Personnel Association, the
Association of Student Judicial Affairs, the National Association of
Student Personnel Administrators, and the National Association for Women
in Education.
She is also supportive of the work of the Office of Women in Higher
Education, so much so that she co-sponsored the opening evening
reception at the Summit for Women Presidents held in Milwaukee, WI in
June 2008.
