How can I participate in a MIVER visit as a team member?
To be considered for acceptance into the MIVER pool of visitors, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must have a terminal degree.
  • You cannot be an employee of the Department of Defense.
  • You cannot be retired for more then three years or not currently active in postsecondary education.
  • You should have experience in at least four of the following five areas:
    • Voluntary education in the military.
    • Adult continuing education.
    • Nontraditional education.
    • Institutional accreditation visits as a participating team member.
    • Instructional delivery and/or counseling on the postsecondary level.

I meet the criteria for acceptance into the MIVER pool of visitors. How do I apply?
Complete the application form, available on this web site, and submit it with a current resume/CV.

How can I find out if and when my installation and voluntary education program will receive a MIVER visit?
Call the MIVER office at (202) 939-9722 or 9723, to determine if you are scheduled for a visit during the current government fiscal year (1 October Ð 30 September). If you are inquiring about future fiscal years, please contact your Service Education Chief.

Who determines when, where, and what kind of MIVER visit (initial MIVER, MIVER revisit, or MIVER consultation) will be conducted?
The Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) at DANTES tells the MIVER office what visits will be conducted, at what installations, and the dates for these visits. The Service Education Chiefs provide this information to the COR.

I have been notified that my installation and voluntary education program have been scheduled for a MIVER visit. How can I change the dates of this visit or request that this visit be rescheduled to another fiscal year?
Go through your chain of command (installation and major command) to submit your change request to the Service Education Chief. If the Service Education Chief approves the change, the DANTES COR will be notified and the COR will work with the MIVER office to implement the proposed schedule change.

My institution has been notified of a planned MIVER visit to an installation at which we offer a program. However, the MIVER visit is scheduled at a time that is inconvenient for the institution, such as during an accreditation visit at the home campus. How can we change the dates of the MIVER visit?
Report this major conflict to the Education Services Officer (ESO) at the installation in question, and ask the ESO to request a schedule change. The ESO will then send the request through the appropriate chain of command to the Service Education Chief.

Who receives the final report for a MIVER visit?
MIVER visit final reports are provided to the education centers, the institutions involved in the visit, the installation commander, the major command, and the Service Education Chiefs.

How can I obtain a copy of a MIVER final report?
The MIVER office maintains a small inventory of MIVER final reports. If your installation or institution was involved in a particular MIVER visit, the MIVER office will send you a copy. If your installation or institution was not involved in that particular MIVER visit, you must go through the appropriate Service Education Chief to obtain approval of your request for a final report. The MIVER office will then send you a copy.

How can I obtain a copy of an installation or institution self-study?
The MIVER office does not release these self-studies, as many may contain proprietary information. You must present your request to the appropriate installation education center or institution.

What is involved in a MIVER visit? How do MIVER reviewers conduct a visit? What do we need to do prior to a MIVER visit? What specific goals does a MIVER visit accomplish?
For additional details about MIVER visits, refer to the MIVER Orientation and Guidelines (504KB, PDF), which is available on this web site.
