Individual candidates who wish to apply must seek their
nomination from the president or chief academic officer of their
institution, and the institution must be a member of ACE. (Those
institutions that are not already members can join ACE by contacting the
Membership
Department.) The nominator agrees to pay the candidate's salary and
benefits throughout the duration of the fellowship.
Nominees must have a record of demonstrated leadership.
Candidates can demonstrate this record by holding positions such as vice
president, dean, or department chair, or being an admissions,
development, or student affairs unit director who has exhibited
leadership in institution-wide contexts. Another eligible candidate
might be a senior faculty member who has skillfully chaired a major
committee or the Faculty Senate. ACE especially encourages minorities
and community college candidates to apply.
