It is with great sadness that we inform you that F. Frances Johnson passed away on March 13, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. Johnson retired from the university in 2005, after 28 years of service in higher education. The last nine years, she served as associate provost for undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama—Huntsville (UAH). She was the primary person on campus responsible for undergraduate programs and was especially focused on student achievement during the critical freshman year. Colleagues, family and friends established an endowed scholarship in her honor last year known as the "Dr. F. Frances Johnson Scholarship." The scholarship benefits undergraduate students who demonstrate academic merit, good character, and community involvement with preference for students who are underrepresented at the university.
