1996–97
It is with great sadness that we inform you that F.
Frances Johnson passed away on March 13, 2007 after a long
battle with cancer. Johnson retired from the university in 2005, after
28 years of service in higher education. The last nine years, she served
as associate provost for undergraduate studies at the University of
Alabama—Huntsville (UAH). She was the primary person on campus
responsible for undergraduate programs and was especially focused on
student achievement during the critical freshman year. Colleagues,
family and friends established an endowed scholarship in her honor last
year known as the "Dr. F. Frances Johnson Scholarship." The scholarship
benefits undergraduate students who demonstrate academic merit, good
character, and community involvement with preference for students who
are underrepresented at the university. For more information contact
