Recipient of a Kellogg National Fellowship, Gmelch is one of higher
education’s leading researchers in the study of academic
leaders—particularly chairs and deans. He is a regular presenter
for the American Council on Education Department Chair Program. |

Irene W. D. Hecht, Director, Department Chair Leadership
Programs, American Council on Education, and President, Higher Education
Associates (Portland, OR)
Hecht has 25 years of experience as a teacher, scholar, tenured faculty
member, and administrator. As director of the Department Chair
Leadership Programs for the American Council on Education, she now
devotes her time to working with department chairs. |

Mary Lou Higgerson, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean
of the College, Baldwin Wallace College (Berea, OH)
Recipient of eight teaching awards and an American Council on Education
Fellow in 1986–87, Higgerson is a regular presenter for the ACE
Department Chair Program. |

Susan Holton, Professor of Communication Studies & Theatre
Arts, Bridgewater State College (Bridgewater, MA)
Holton is a certified mediator and member of the Association for
Conflict Management. She is an experienced presenter and leading author
and researcher in the field of conflict management. She has served as
both faculty member and department chair and has held other
administrative positions. She has extensive experience in faculty
development.
