Research and Reports

From Soldier to Student: Easing the Transition of Service Members on Campus (PDF) (American Council on Education, 2009). Report offers a first-of-its-kind national snapshot of the programs, services, and policies in place on campuses to serve veterans and military personnel, as well as areas in which campuses need to improve their offerings.

Military Servicemembers and Veterans in Higher Education:What the New GI Bill May Mean for Postsecondary Institutions (PDF) (American Council on Education, 2009).  Report outlines the details of the new GI Bill, which expands education benefits for returning veterans, and provides data on current military undergraduate students ,which administrators can use to prepare their campuses for a potential surge in service member enrollment.

Serving Those Who Serve: Higher Education and America's Veterans (PDF) (American Council on Education, 2008). Report provides an overview on today's veterans, identifies postsecondary obstacles, and highlights good practice.

Combat2College: Facilitating College Success for Combat Veterans (PDF) (Joseph Bleiberg, PhD et al, 2008). Report on the Combat to College program at Montgomery College to support veteran students in transitioning from active duty to campus life.

Education & the Military Spouse: The Long Road to Success (PDF) (The National Military Family Association, 2007). Report identifies challenges facing military spouses in attaining educational goals and provides recommendations to better education opportunities for military spouses.

Troop to Teachers: A Model Pathway to a Second Tour of Duty [PDF] (David Bank, 2007). Report recognizes the TTT program as a model for transition to public service careers for adults.

Workingwomen Speak Out II: Women Veterans in Transition (Business & Professional Women USA, 2007). Report on women veterans transitioning to civilian life and the workplace.
