Programs and services that are successfully helping
active-duty military servicemembers, veterans, reservists, spouses and
dependents attain needed training and education.
America's
Veterans to Tennessee Engineers program targets veterans in the Oak
Ridge area of Tennessee and guarantees them employment upon completion
of an engineering degree.
The Army Career Degree Program offers soldiers
specific options for meeting college requirements through their Army
training.
Army
Credentialing Opportunities Online (COOL) translates military skills
and training directly to civilian credentialing and certification.
College of the American Soldier is a new partnership
with ten participating colleges that aims to assist soldiers in
obtaining an associate or bachelor's degree.
Combat2College (C2C) is a program at Montgomery
College to welcome home and provide academic opportunities and
appropriate support services for veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom
(OIF) and/or Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with
Disabilities offers training in entrepreneurship and business
management to disabled veterans at the Whitman School of Management at
Syracuse University. The program also includes three
partnerships at UCLA, Florida State University and Texas A&M.
The First Responder Program at Benedictine
University is a degree program for first responders including Illinois
fire and police professionals, as well as Iraqi and Afghan veterans of
Illinois.
The GED Plus Enlistment Program enables applicants
who currently do not possess a high school diploma or equivalency
certificate to obtain a GED for enlistment purposes.
The GI to Jobs initiative creates a tool for
soldiers, counselors, civilian employers, and credentialing boards to
determine the extent to which Army training and experience meets
civilian credentialing requirements.
Hire Vets
First is a government sponsored, one-stop internet news and resource
center for servicemembers in transition from active duty.
The
Learning-on-the-Go PDA program at Duquesne University's School of
Leadership and Professional Advancement (SLPA) has enabled military
students located in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, and other countries to
enroll in postsecondary education.
Military
Spouse Career Advancement Account Initiative provides education and
training to military spouses to advance them into portable careers in
high demand occupations.
Military
Veterans with Hearing Loss Project at RIT/NTID helps veterans with
hearing loss earn their bachelor or graduate-level degree with access to
audiological services, note taking, captioning, and other classroom
technologies.
Project for Return and Opportunity in Veterans’
Education (P.R.O.V.E) Program is a university-wide endeavor that
offers the assistance of graduate student interns experienced in working
with individuals who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Scholarships for the Severely Injured are available
for servicemembers and their spouses at universities nationwide.
The Sierra College Boots to Books
Program awards two $250 scholarships to student veterans each
semester to spend in the on-campus bookstore.
Spouses to Teachers (STT) is a project to assist
spouses of active duty and reserve military members to become public
school teachers.
The Telephone Call Center Management Certificate
Program at Northern Virginia Community College focuses on training
that will enable wounded and disabled veterans to return to the
workforce.
The Transition
Assistance Program (TAP) has helped over one million separating and
retiring military members and their spouses transition from military
service to the civilian workplace with one year of their separation or
two years of retirement.
The
Troops to College Program operates in California colleges and
universities to help make campuses "veteran friendly" and easier for
military servicemembers to attend.
The Troops to Teachers Hire in Advance Program is a
program that helps eligible military personnel transition into teaching
careers.
USMAP is a training system for active duty
service members to earn certification for skills gained through
documented on-the-job training and related technical instruction.
The Veterans Upward
Bound Program is a free program designed to help prospective
first-generation or low-income college students who are military
veterans to complete their postsecondary education.
