Online programs and services that help adult learners access
postsecondary education and training.
The Advanced
Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL) is a collaborative effort
between government, industry, and academia to establish a new
distributed learning environment.
The African
Educational Research Network (AERN) is a nonprofit network that
provides online professional development for research professors around
the world on topics of African development.
The
Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is a national
initiative in the UK supported by the Higher Education Academy to build
on knowledge of pedagogy and practice. Its objective is to enhance
learning and teaching practices across the higher education sector in
the United Kingdom.
The National
Center for Academic Transformation's Program in Course Redesign
(PCR) demonstrates how colleges and universities can redesign their
instructional approaches using technology to achieve cost savings and
quality enhancements. Participating institutions have experienced
increased course completion rates and reduced drops, failures, and
withdrawals rates among their adult students.
The Ohio Learning
Network (OLN) collaborates with other sectors in the use of
technology to expand educational opportunities for all Ohioans.
OpenLearn
is an initiative of the British Open University that provides access to
200,000 students studying at the Open University as well as all learners
around the world.
Project IDEAL
(Improving Distance Education for Adult Learners) is a consortium of
states working together to raise the quality of distance education
through research and practice.
SeniorNet, through more than 130 Learning Centers,
offers adults aged 50 and older a low-cost introduction to computer
use.
The Sloan Center on Innovative Training and Workforce
Development (ITWD), housed at Rutgers University, helps other
sectors implement online training alternatives for workers without
postsecondary education.
Workforce Learning Link is a statewide workforce
training initiative in New Jersey that merges computer-based, self-paced
learning with staff-assisted instruction in a workshop setting to
raise their literacy levels, improve their employability and
salaries, and strengthen the economy.
Workforce3 One, sponsored by the U.S. Department of
Labor/Employment and Training Administration (ETA), offers interactive
online communication spaces for employers, trainers, and workers and
highlights best practices.
