distance learning and online education that meet the changing needs of
lifelong learners.

Name: The Surgical Technology Accelerated Alternative Delivery
Certificate Program
Location: Wayne County Community College,
Michigan
Description: In response to national industry
requirements for more certified surgical technologists, Wayne County Community
College (WCCC) partnered with the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany to
provide online training leading to certification in this high-growth
profession.
Begun in fall 2009, The Surgical Technology Accelerated Alternative Delivery
Certificate Program is offered to Landstuhl staff already working in
the field but in need of certification. Landstuhl is the largest
hospital operated by the U.S. Army and Department of Defense overseas
and the primary initial care facility for wounded soldiers serving in
Iraq and Afghanistan. Twenty-four students are currently enrolled in the
program.
