The Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Faculty Career Flexibility

Masters Large Institutions Awards Overview

Application Process and Deadlines

The initial selection process is closed for the 2007–2008 round of awards.  Those institutions which completed the Institutional Survey, and which achieve a score at or above the median, will advance to Round II of the application process.  Eligible institutions will be notified by June 30th, 2007.

What’s Next for Selected Institutions?

As a benefit to participating institutions, all applicants will receive a benchmarking report which compares their responses on the Institutional Survey with the average ratings of the other university applicants.

In this next phase, selected institutions will be required to complete an institution-wide Accelerator Plan indicating how they would use the $200,000 award to advance career flexibility on their campus. Accelerator Plans will be due to ACE by September 15th, 2007.

Institutions that advance to Round II also will be required to administer a Faculty Survey. The Faculty Survey is similar to the Institutional Survey in content, but questions faculty members on their usage of flexible policies. Institutions will have from September 15th until November 30th, 2007, to administer the Faculty Survey and achieve a required 40 percent response rate.

ACE will be scheduling conference calls during summer 2007 to discuss the development of Accelerator Plans, and the implementation of the Faculty Survey.

Winners of this awards process will be announced in February 2008 at the ACE Annual Meeting.

Additional Information

What about the two smaller grants?

After the completion of the institutional survey, two additional institutions will be recognized for their unique, innovative, and promising practices in career flexibility for their tenure-track and tenured faculty. The two selected institutions will receive $25,000 awards for this recognition, even if they do not advance to the second round of the application process.
