Commission on International Initiatives

The Commission on International Initiatives advises ACE on its initiatives in internationalization and global learning and in our contacts with other countries. The Commission guides ACE in its work in the following general areas:

  • Providing policy guidance to U.S. institutions wishing to internationalize their programs.
  • Working with other associations to increase support for international education activities from the federal government, state governments, and the private sector.
  • Working with national and regional associations of universities abroad on issues of common interest to U.S. college and university presidents and their counterparts in other countries.

Under the Commission on International Initiatives' guidance, ACE commissions studies, issues papers, and convenes international meetings as well as meetings of U.S. presidents. Once a year, the Commission meets jointly with the Leadership Network for International Education, a broader group including both presidents and chief academic officers, to discuss a major issue in the internationalization of higher education. ACE also occasionally sponsors projects involving institutions and associations in other countries and is one of six presidential associations cosponsoring Higher Education for Development.
