CIP Parental Involvement

Partner Institution: North Carolina Argicultural and Technical State University

Activity:  Parent Workshop on Planning for Your Child's Academic Future

Many parents are unprepared to give their child the kind of assistance that will help them succeed. Planning for Your Child’s Academic Future addressed an important component in a student’s academic success—parental involvement.

Informed parents help to build and strengthen the pipeline between secondary and postsecondary education. Through an interactive workshop, parents received the opportunity to become better informed about how to guide their children's education. Parents were given an overview of the content of their child’s transcripts, participated in the development of a successful four-year plan for high school courses, and learned more about the calculators that are used in current courses in mathematics.

During the workshop, parents had the opportunity to interact with counselors and learn more about graduation requirements, as well as other essential information that their children need to know to successfully complete high school and transition to postsecondary education.
