Internationalization Collaborative Mini-Grant Awards 2006

ACE has awarded two mini-grants of $7,500 each to learning partnerships between institutional members of the Internationalization Collaborative for initiatives to promote internationalization and mutual learning on their campuses. The purpose of the mini-grants is to encourage institutions to develop activities to learn from each other and to accelerate the impact of internationalization at their institutions. Mini-grant awards have been issued to:

Portland State University, University of Iowa, Binghamton University and Baldwin-Wallace College.  These institutions will develop a “Consortium for Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum (C/LAC).”   This joint effort will address the challenges facing Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum (C/LAC) and pursue creative solutions, so that C/LAC can be utilized to its fullest potential in the internationalization of campuses and the development of “globally competent” graduates.    By sharing best practices and adapting techniques to fit specific circumstances, the collaborators will determine which C/LAC models best serve specific goals, populations and institutional structures.  These models will ultimately be available for other institutions to adopt and adapt.

Beloit College and Kalamazoo College.  Through their curriculum development project, “Integrating Study Abroad and International Student Experiences into Disciplinary and Interdisciplinary Courses,” these colleges will leverage their own institutional strengths in international education to directly connect students’ international experiences to the curriculum (and thus to faculty and other students).  This project will allow Beloit College and Kalamazoo College to work together in building structures that will allow returned study abroad students and international students to share their experiences and perspectives.  Curriculum development workshops will be held for faculty at the two colleges, and courses will be developed or revised and implemented to incorporate study abroad and international experiences.
