Strengthening Our Place in the Academy: A Summit for Women
Administrators & Faculty of Color

The issues facing women of color in the academy were the focus of the
third summit in the CAREE CLASSIC Series. Participants from across the
country explored a wide range of topics, such as preparing for
leadership positions, developing and enhancing a scholarly portfolio,
and negotiating the tenure process.

Sponsored by the American Council on Education’s Center for
Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity and the Office of Women in Higher
Education. The summit provided a forum in which women of color in
higher education addressed and reflected on the complex role and broad
scope of leadership responsibilities and relationships and the special
challenges facing women of color in the academy.
