Senator Susan M. Collins (R-ME) recently received a bachelor’s
of science degree in biology and a master’s of science degree in
medical technology courtesy of investigators from the General Accounting
Office looking into how easy it is purchase bogus academic credentials
from “diploma mills.” Next week, the Senate Governmental
Affairs Committee will conduct two days of hearings to examine whether
senior federal bureaucrats purchased bogus degrees, some with taxpayer
money, and explore whether "high-level" government officials have listed
diploma mill degrees on security clearance forms.
