Cultivating Collaboration Between Internationalization and Multicultural Education

ACE is building on its history of work on internationalization, access, success, equity, and diversity to host a symposium to advance the national discussion on cultivating collaboration between internationalization and multicultural education. The goals of this symposium are to:

  • Provide opportunities for institutional leaders to discuss the issues
  • Showcase examples of good practice in fostering collaboration between these areas
  • Provide institutional teams with opportunities to formulate action plans to advance campus conversation and good practice.

Application Process

The application includes:

  • A cover sheet indicating team members and contact information
  • An application narrative addressing questions on institutional conditions and good practice

The submission deadline is Friday, February 29th 2008. If you have questions, please contact Jarred Butto, Program Associate for the American Council on Education, at (202) 939-9453 or via e-mail at jarred_butto@ace.nche.edu.

We strongly suggest that interested parties note this symposium on their calendars as they apply. ACE will not be able to accommodate last-minute substitutions.

Staff from ACE's Center for Racial and Ethnic Equity and the Center for International Initiatives will review the applications to determine the 25 institutional teams that will be invited to participate in the symposium. ACE will notify selected teams by Friday, March 14th, 2008.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated commitment to internationalization
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity/multicultural education
  • Evidence of an institutional culture, structures and/or academic conditions that are conducive to collaboration between internationalization and multicultural education
  • Commitment of the three core leaders (chief academic officer, chief diversity officer, and chief international education officer) to attending the symposium

A block of rooms has been secured at the Westin Washington DC City Center Hotel at a rate of $195 (single/double). Please call 1-800-937-8461 and identify yourself as part of the ACE group to receive the discounted rate. Reservations made after Monday, June 2, 2008 are not guaranteed the group rate.
