New Web Site Stresses Importance of Global Competence for the 21st
Century
Aug. 11, 2009
The American Council on Education (ACE) and the Coalition for
International Education have launched a new web site aimed at
highlighting the need for international and foreign language education
to become part of the core mission of the U.S. education system.
The site, www.usglobalcompetence.org, created with support
from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, celebrates the 50th
anniversary of the Higher Education Act-Title VI and Fulbright-Hays
programs and underscores the importance of strengthening U.S. global
competence in the 21st century through videos and highlights from a
recent symposium.
“Whether it's global engagement abroad or global/cultural
understanding at home, our success in this century will depend on
it,” said Madeleine Green, ACE’s vice president,
international initiatives.
The site features two videos and 13 additional brief interviews with
Title VI/Fulbright-Hays beneficiaries who are currently using their
knowledge and expertise both at home and abroad. The experts interviewed
work in business, diplomacy and international peace, economic and health
care development, education, and military security and
peacekeeping.
The site also includes a section on ACE’s global symposium that
took place in March and features downloadable presentations from the
event. Visitors also will find useful links to information on the Title
VI/Fulbright-Hays programs and related U.S. Department of Education
online resources.
A DVD showcasing HEA-Title VI and Fulbright-Hays can be downloaded
for free from the site or purchased here.
