CIP Community Engagement

Partner Institution: North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University

Activity:  College Access Youth Summit

The Youth Summit for College Access enabled a diverse group of students to share experiences, build networks, and collaborate with their peers to explore college access issues. Students created their own statement of vision/purpose for the summit, and shared personal stories and engaged in meaningful dialogue with one another and with practitioners who helped them to better develop and implement successful college access programs.

North Carolina A&T University collaborated with the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) and Cape Fear Community College to make this summit possible. UNCW’s art department provided the students with an opportunity to work on an individual metal sculpture and a collage to help the students express what college access meant to them. Following the art project, the students traveled to the Cape Fear Community College campus where they used a studio to videotape and audiotape what worked well for them and what did not worked well for them during the college access program.
