Miami Dade President Eduardo Padrón to Present Atwell Lecture at ACE’s 2010 Annual Meeting

Eduardo J. Padrón, president of Miami Dade College, has been selected to give the Robert H. Atwell Lecture at the opening plenary session of the American Council on Education’s (ACE) 2010 Annual Meeting, scheduled for March 6-9 in Phoenix, AZ.

Padrón joins a distinguished roster of presidents who have presented the Annual Meeting opening lecture. The lecture was named by the ACE Board of Directors for Atwell, who served as ACE president from 1984–96.

Miami Dade College (MDC) is the largest and most diverse college in the nation. With eight campuses and over 170,000 students from across the world, the college offers over 300 programs of study and several degree options, including vocational, associate, and baccalaureate degrees.

Padrón’s pace-setting work at MDC has been hailed as a model of innovation in higher education. He is credited with engineering a culture of success that has produced impressive results in student access, retention, graduation, and overall achievement. MDC enrolls and graduates more minorities than any other institution in the United States, including the largest numbers of Hispanics and African-Americans.

Padrón will be speaking at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 7.
