The CAO Census: A National Profile of Chief Academic Officers

Becoming a college or university CEO requires a keen understanding of oneself and the search process, and a solid game plan for transitioning into the position. As part of ACE's commitment to leadership development, we present Advancing to the Presidency: A Workshop on Successful Presidential Search and Transition, an opportunity for senior administrators who will be seeking a presidency within the next two years.

This two-day workshop focuses on presidential leadership, the CEO search process, contract negotiation, and successful transitions into the presidency. It is highly interactive, including candid conversations with search firm executives, coaching by current presidents from diverse institutions, feedback from mock interviews, and CV/résumé critiques.

For this workshop, ACE selects approximately 35 individuals who represent diverse backgrounds and hold senior executive positions, with a range of responsibilities from a variety of institutions. Currently the cost to attend the workshop is $1,250 for participants from ACE member institutions and $1,550 for those from non-member institutions. Those who would not otherwise be able to attend may request partial scholarships, the Fidelity Investments Fellowships for Leadership Development. They are possible because of the generous support of Fidelity Investments. Participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging.
