KnowHow2GO Tampa Bay last week launched South
Florida’s version of the national KnowHow2GO college
access campaign sponsored by the American Council on Education (ACE),
Lumina Foundation for Education and the Ad Council.
The KnowHow2GO campaign helps
young people—particularly low-income students and those who are
the first in their families to pursue higher education—navigate
the process of preparing for college.

President Judy Genshaft was among the guests at the June 27
“College Pep Rally” in Tampa, which focused on the four
steps students need to take to go to college. To go along with the pep
rally theme, cheerleaders, college mascots, and a step team performed
for attendees, which included students from community youth
agencies.

Hillsborough Community College admissions and financial aid
representatives were on hand to answer questions from students and
parents.
"The community-based
organizations partnering with KnowHow2GO Tampa Bay are bringing the
national campaign message home to local students,” said Carolyn
Stanek, ACE’s assistant director for national initiatives, who
attended the event. “These organizations encourage students to
take proactive steps to prepare for college and support them while
they're doing it.”
KnowHow2GO Tampa Bay is holding
a summer contest for area youth groups for the best creative projects
that express the national KnowHow2GO theme. The winners will be
announced in August 2008 and will receive iPods as prizes.
