What's Working and Where

Name: Transparency by Design Initiative

Location: Nationwide

Description: An initiative to assist adult learners in becoming educated consumers of distance education.

Structures for Success:

  • Members comprise a consortium of regionally-accredited, adult-serving, distance education institutions.
  • In August 2009, a website, College Choices for Adults, was launched to inform adult learners of program learning outcomes, measurements, and results at member institutions to assist their selection process.
  • All institutional members have pledged to uphold the Principles of Good Practice for Higher Education Institutions Serving Adults at a Distance to ensure the quality and accessibility of higher education distance learning programs.
  • Standards of data reporting are jointly developed by member institutions.
