Thriving in a Global Future: A Strategic Dialogue for US and UK Higher Education Leaders
This meeting, which builds on two successful events in 2007 and 2008, will explore the global, market-driven future and its implications for institutions on both sides of the Atlantic. Approximately 30 chief academic officers and other senior officers from the U.S. and their equivalents from the U.K. will meet in Washington D.C. from July 14–16, 2009 to explore what a future might look like and what it would take to prepare our institutions for it. Central to the dialogue and exchange between U.S. and U.K. campus leaders, will be an intensive discussion of specific future-focused challenges participants are addressing. During the meeting they will receive consultation from other leaders on the particular challenges and opportunities they identify for discussion. The three-day leadership dialogue will provide an opportunity for participants to think more broadly and creatively about challenges of the global future, offer a series of take-home ideas, and present a deeper understanding of another leading higher education system. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to visit or host colleagues for a visit at the conclusion of the meeting. A list of U.S. participants willing to host colleagues from the U.K. will be circulated well in advance of the meeting.
