Department Leadership Programs

The American Council on Education offers a series of general national workshops for division and department chairs and deans specifically designed to focus on departmental leadership. These workshops seek to support the development of the chair as an academic leader within the department and within the institution as a whole. The program offers three national workshops each year: in February in California; in June in Washington, DC; and in November in Texas.

In 2006, ACE began offering a special advanced summer workshop. ACE will offer two advanced workshops in July 2009. The topics for the 2009 programs are Leading Managing, Supporting and Navigating Change and Managing Conflict. You may register for both Managing Conflict and Leading Managing, Supporting, and Navigating Change.

ACE also offers the Department Chair Online Resources Center, which serves department and program leaders as well as the administrators who work with them. Developed with the support of the Lumina Foundation this resource center offers articles, suggestions, bibliographies, and links to other sites of interest.
